Here I am with my midnight thoughts editing my resume for the fifth time this week.
I need to include some keywords to pass the Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and get a better chance to land more interviews because, as I told you before, after 11 years of being a SAHM, the gap plays against me, I know it.
So I decided to “screen” my resume with Monster since they offer a free review (I love free stuff), make recommendations, and if you want to improve it, you pay the editing service. I’m not sure if I’ll get that done, I’m going to wait how my interviews go and then I’ll decide.
In the meantime, let me share with you what Monster and other job search websites are looking on resumes nowadays:
- Visual Appearance. Same font throughout the document and between 11 or 12 sizes. Titles, previous employers, and what you are doing right now in bold, grammar, and no typos.
- Content Solid They are looking for detail accomplishments, skills, and competencies and not mere descriptions. Literally, “If your resume does not include these sections, you risk being eliminated as a candidate.” Yikes! Also, they see the content section as a showcase of your personal brand.
- Tags Every hiring managers use “Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to automatically designate a Best Fit” so you need to review keywords that describe your experience level and qualifications (you get those from the job description)
My eyes are getting tired, they are not as bright and able as they used to be 20 years ago, I’ll try to catch some sleep and let you know how the second screening of my resume looks like.
Thanks for stopping by, I am just sharing All The Good Stuff to Make it Real! I’m on a mission to help any mom who wants to go back to work, that’s all.
